Exail: drones for mine clearance in Ukraine

17/03/2025 – Exail Technologies, a French specialist in robotics and cutting-edge technologies, has been selected under the Ukraine Fund to deploy its mine-clearing drones in Ukraine. The company was one of 19 selected from more than 70 applications, and will receive €14.6 million in funding.

The Ukraine Fund, launched in June 2024 by the French and Ukrainian presidents, aims to support the reconstruction and economic resilience of the country with a budget of €200 million. It targets five priority sectors: energy, water, health, infrastructure and mine clearance.

Within this framework, Exail will supply land and underwater drones designed to detect and neutralise mines. The company will work in partnership with the French company Géomines, which specialises in land and underwater mine clearance. As well as supplying these advanced technologies, Exail will train Ukrainian personnel to optimise the use of this equipment in the field.

Although these drones are not produced directly at the Lannion site, the local team plays a crucial role in integrating high-precision inertial units into the underwater drones. These systems guarantee optimal navigation and increased efficiency for mine clearance missions.

With 2,000 employees worldwide and sustained growth (+40% in orders by 2024), Exail is strengthening its strategic international positioning. Its selection by the Ukraine Fund is testimony to its recognised expertise in the defence and security sector, contributing to the reconstruction and stabilisation of Ukraine.
