26/03/2025 – On March 24, Photonics Bretagne and Oxxius were delighted to welcome Pauline Dubus, sub-prefect of Lannion, accompanied by Technopole Anticipa, for a tour of their facilities and a discussion on the challenges facing the photonics industry. These visits were part of the France 2030 programme and the Economic Recovery Plan, which aim to support industrial innovation and boost the competitiveness of technology companies in France.
Recognition of the technological excellence of Photonics Bretagne and Oxxius
The sub-prefect was able to see for herself the richness of Lannion’s photonics ecosystem, which is growing at an annual rate of 15%. This dynamism, based on a unique synergy between research, training and industrialisation, reinforces Lannion’s position as a major centre of innovation in the field of photonics.
She began by discovering the activities of Photonics Bretagne, in particular those dedicated to the development of special optical fibres and other innovative photonic components. She was impressed by the highly technical nature of our infrastructure and the excellence of our skills, which enable us to compete on a global scale.
Oxxius then presented the technological advances made as part of the LaCIO project, which has enabled the company to increase its production capacity using cutting-edge equipment. In particular, this initiative has enabled the company to double its production of DPSS lasers, recognised worldwide for their efficiency and power. In addition, Oxxius’ photonic innovations have been used to equip drones for underwater surveillance, civil applications (oceanographic study of currents, acoustic study to locate marine mammals or maritime traffic) and defence. This ID-GF project, supported by France 2030, benefits from collaboration with Ifremer.
Strong support for the photonics industry
This visit illustrates the public authorities’ recognition of the efforts made to make photonics a lever for competitiveness and industrial innovation in France. Their support is essential to maintain France’s technological lead, encourage the emergence of new strategic applications and strengthen industrial sovereignty in a constantly changing international context.
I would like to thank the sub-prefect for her interest in and commitment to the photonics industry, and Technopole Anticipa for organising this enriching visit. We are proud to be actively contributing to the growth of photonics in France, in Brittany and in Lannion, and to be pursuing our mission of innovation in the service of tomorrow’s industries.
