OptiClean: a new optical sensor

03/06/2024 – With the support of engineers from Photonics Bretagne, Elodys International has developed an optical sensor, OptiClean. It is used to optimise the cleaning phases of processes in the agri-food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical sectors. Photonics Bretagne carried out a proof of concept by evaluating several optical technologies to demonstrate that the sensor worked perfectly, before transferring it to a manufacturer for production and marketing. Based on the principle of UV and IR spectrophotometry, the sensor can be used to measure variations in the organic load contained in CIP detergent solutions on-line, enabling the optimum washing recipe to be determined. This delivers a host of economic and environmental benefits, including shorter washing times (productivity), improved quality control, water and energy savings, and reduced material losses. Today, more than 350 sensors have been installed in France and around the world (USA, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Mexico, Egypt, etc.)! A great success story!
