Photonics Park
The Photonics Park
Like the American Science Parks, Brittany has its own Photonics Park in Lannion, where most of the photonics industry is concentrated. Inaugurated in 2017, it comprises a corporate centre, a technology platform and a start-up incubator. In fact, Photonics Park now covers the entire photonics ecosystem in Lannion.
Photonics Bretagne is located at the heart of Photonics Park, with its 13-metre-high fibre tower as a powerful symbol.
This project, led by Photonics Bretagne and supported by the French government, the Conseil Régional de Bretagne, the Conseil Départemental des Côtes d’Armor and Lannion Trégor Communauté, has enabled Brittany to establish itself as a national and European centre for innovation in photonics.

History
The Photonics Park project is part of the industrial redevelopment programme for the former western part of the Nokia Group site, which was bought by the urban district council LTC in 2015. The aim was to bring together the main players in the photonics sector in a common area of the Parc Industriel de Pégase in Lannion. A technology transfer platform, a business centre and a start-up incubator were all to be housed on the same site.
Spearheaded by the Photonics Bretagne cluster and strongly supported by the local authorities, this project aims to make Brittany a national and European centre for innovation in photonics by 2020.
The first phase of works was carried out in the summer of 2015 and aimed to refurbish part of Building F and to install Photonics Bretagne. The second phase, between the summer of 2016 and the spring of 2017, saw the construction of a new building to house the 13-metre-high fibre tower and other state-of-the-art equipment.
This project represents a €5M investment. It has been made possible thanks to financial support from the European Union (ERDF), the French government, the Conseil Régional de Bretagne, the Conseil Départemental des Côtes d’Armor and the urban district council Lannion-Trégor Communauté.
The only one of its kind in France, Photonics Park was inaugurated in July 2017 by all the elected representatives: Joël LE JEUNE, President of Lannion Trégor Communauté; Erven LEON, Vice-President of Lannion Trégor Communauté; Paul LE BIHAN, Mayor of Lannion; Alain CADEC, President of the Conseil Départemental des Côtes d’Armor; Fanny Chappé, representing the Conseil Régional de Bretagne, Eric BOTHOREL, Member of Parliament for Côtes d’Armor, Yannick BOTREL, Senator for Côtes d’Armor, Christine ROYER, Sub-Prefect of Lannion; …

This ambitious project has lived up to all its promises, positioning the Photonics Park as a key national and international photonics cluster. It is a driving force behind the development of the photonics sector in Brittany, involving a wide range of local skills from research to industry and training.
The development and recruitment of a large number of companies in the sector perfectly reflect this expansion (average growth of 15% p.a.), with the emergence of the start-up Photonics Open Projects as an example. The entire photonics ecosystem in Lannion and Brittany has benefited from this increase in global recognition and competitiveness.
