Nelly Besnard takes over as director of the Biotech Santé Bretagne innovation centre

President Franck Zal and the Board of Directors of Biotech Santé Bretagne are delighted to welcome Nelly Besnard as the association’s new director on 1 February. As the guarantor of the innovation centre’s roadmap, which for the past 30 years has been helping to bring about innovative and structuring projects for the healthcare and biotechnology sectors in the Brittany region, she joins the team of experts with great enthusiasm.

With a doctorate in biological sciences, Nelly Besnard spent ten years as a teacher-researcher in the fields of plant physiology and applied molecular biology in health. After two further training courses, in information systems and medical data processing, then in management control, she moved into support functions linked to strategic activities (organisational processes, operational management, partnership development, public funding management, setting up national and European projects, etc.). Most recently, Nelly Besnard was in charge of the Partnerships and Innovation Department at Rennes University Hospital.

« With over thirty years’ experience in the fields of scientific research and healthcare, and a deep-rooted attachment to the values of solidarity and public service, I am motivated in my new role at Biotech Santé Bretagne by the need to work together with a wide range of stakeholders, » explains Nelly Besnard, the new Director of Biotech Santé Bretagne.

Over 200 members and 100 innovative projects supported every year: Biotech Santé Bretagne is a key player in innovation and economic development in the Brittany region.

From the selection of spermatozoa for MAP to assistance robots for geriatrics, from the exploitation of health data in cancerology to the creation of a concentrate of natural marine benefits for cosmetics, from a new algae-based ingredient for the cognitive health of seniors to the development of plant biomass to reduce additives in food, the experts at Biotech Santé Bretagne are helping to bring to fruition a number of success stories that offer solutions for the future and regional economic development in the 7 sectors covered by the association: eco-industry, agro-industry, health nutrition, cosmetics, biotech pharma, medical technologies and e-health.

This whole community of experts, members and regional players creates and invests in Brittany for the benefit of all. And while innovations are born in the region, many are exported, attracting investors and partners from around the world.
